Thirteen St Andrew’s College students participated in the Canterbury Regional Model United Nations conference over two days. Wil Undy (Year 13) was one of two delegates who were awarded best speaker at the event. Year 13 student Blaise Turnbull attended as a conference assistant because of her role as a High School Representative with UN Youth.

The theme for this year’s conference was ‘security’ and the students all attended ‘General Assembly’ committees on various issues regarding aspects of security and human rights. Each student was assigned with a country and they had to represent this country’s views and policies throughout the entire conference during the debate and policy making stages. Rose Oakley (Year 13) recounts ‘this was exciting and interesting because it challenged us to think in a different way compared to how the New Zealand government operates and the values NZ society is built upon’.
