The Young Enterprise Regional Awards were held last week at the University of Canterbury, the St Andrew's College Year 13 Business Studies team called ‘Student Direct Tutoring’ won first equal place. This is the first time St Andrew’s has ever won this award.
Student Direct Tutoring are ‘people connectors’, which involves an innovative online service that rewards high achieving students with gainful employment as tutors, while also offering students one on one peer tutoring. This website allows tutors the opportunity to pass on valuable hands on experience and relatable insight about NCEA to students in need of this assistance. The business originally focused on St Andrew’s College students as its target market, but is now looking to broaden its market to other local schools as NCEA exams approach.
Two team members now get to compete at the Young Enterprise nationals in Wellington held at Te Papa in December, where they will pitch their idea to a panel of top New Zealand entrepreneurs, then attend an awards dinner hosted by the Governor General.
Student Direct Tutoring are Nicholas Marriot (CEO), Mack Mayell, Louis Hawkins and Logan Sergeant.
